One hit may not be a lot, but sometimes that's all you need for musical immortality--to earn that glorious title, "One Hit Wonder." Watch the story behind Marcy Playground's "Sex and Candy."
Got to love the one hit wonders!
Marky Mark - Wildside #10 Inner Circle - Sweat (La La Long) #16 EMF - Lies #18
@Mike: Why mislead and include artists that really had two or more hits when so many true one hit wonders are more worthy and actually fit the definition. Sinead O'Connor, Ini Kamoze, Donna Lewis, Jennifer Paige, Paperboy, Mark Morrison, and many others really only had one hit and were far better choices.
@Mike: I'd wager a week's salary that plenty of '90's music fans remember Inner Circle's "Sweat (La La Long)" If you're not going to go "by the book", how else do you determine a "hit"? My issue is that there's absolutely no consistency. How is Belly's "Feed The Tree", which reached #95, a "hit", but Vanilla Ice's "Play That Funky Music", which reached #4, not a "hit"?
Yeah
@morecowbell if you want to go by the book of what is a one-hit wonder, then yes some of the artists you listed aren't one-hit-wonders by the book. However, the definition of a one-hit-wonder changes for each person you talk too. Like mine. My definition is a group or artist that is only know for one song only, and it achieved national (or international) success (usally at least no.5 on the charts). This means that even if they had another top 20 song, after 15-20 years, they are only know for their one hit wonder. Take Marky Mark or EMF for example. Do people know any songs expect their one hit wonders, heck i doubt some people even know the name of the group anymore. Another example is Inner Circle, whose song is still being played after 20 years at least once a week on fox on saturday. and does anyone remeber their other song? no. One-hit-wonders stand the test of time, and some are still played today from time to time.
Thanks for using my peanut butter and jelly artwork during Marcy Playground. It looked fantastic! Loved the show!
First off, seven of these artists had two top 20 songs and shouldn't be one hit wonders: Marky Mark, EMF, Snow, Kris Kross, Vanilla Ice, Gerardo, and Inner Circle. Where the freak is Sinead O'Connor???? Surely she merits an inclusion ahead of Imani Coppola and Belly???!!!!!
Spin Doctors weren't on here because they had more than one popular single. Haha.
The fact that the Spin Doctors weren't on this show pains me to no end.
