Drummer Mike Portnoy again graces the That Metal Show set to discuss his departure from Dream Theater, and joining Adrenaline Mob. Then guitarist John Sykes takes a seat to discuss touring with Phil Lynott and Whitesnake.
This show was too long ago to worry about, but I think that making a drummer a good drummer means he has to do more than just play drums. I would have definitely put Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan in that mix simply because he was the genius behind all the music writing (for the most part) even up till "Nightmare." When I listen to a song, I listen for something that makes it special and none of them are special. My other choices are Tommy Lee, Lars Ulrich, Mike Portnoy, and Peter Criss.
now thinking bout changing my pick to permanent Waves haha
John Bonham should've been number 1!
1 john bonam 2peter criss 3 neil peart 4 keith moon 5 tommy lee
The omission of Alex Van Halen is criminal.

Actually, they're more hard rock than prog. Comparing them to a band like Yes or King Crimson as opposed to Led Zeppelin? they're more Zeppelin than Crimson
Amen to that brother! I don't think they've even mentioned tool once on the show.
How can you guys snub Danny Carey? Seriously?
If this is a list of the top 5 hard rock drummers, then how inspirational they were to other drummers is irrelevant. This isn't about how inspirational they were to others, it's about who had more talent. My list would be 1. Neil Peart 2. Alex Van Halen 3. John Bonham 4. Carmine Appice 5. Ian Paice
Top 5 Drummers in no particular Order Ticco Torres,Tommy Lee, John Bonham, Rick Allen, and Eric Carr
