pantera walk is an anthem . who dont know the chorus to that song RE .... SPECT..... WALK!!!! WADDAYA SAY!!!!!!
As far as the criteria of the top 5, Eddie's selections fit ( and I hate agreein' with his pompous ass). Sorry Don & Jim, you were way off base on this one.
Eddie had the closest list for anthems, but Quiet Riot's anthemic song is NOT "*** On Feel the Noize", but rather "Metal Health". Similarly, Saxon's (Don's list) is "Denim and Leather". I think to a large extent they all missed the boat...Eddie was too 1970s (he usually is), Don and Jim were trying for bands and not songs. It's all opinion, granted, but if Eddie had made at least the one tweak for QR he would have had the most definitive list.
Top five anthems: (1.Rush - Tom Sawyer...(2.Dio - We Rock....(3.Black Sabbath - Sweet Leaf...(4.Machine Head - Aesthetics of Hate...(5.Twisted Sister - (You Can't Sop)Rock 'N Roll...
Top five anthems is bit tricky because a song can be an anthem based upon its theme but it can also be an anthem because of its melodic quality. Iron Maiden and Judas Priest have tones of songs that have anthem-like quality without having any "anthem themes". Iron Maiden's "Aces High" and guitar solos from Judas Priest's "Freewheel Burning" have very strong anthem quality to them. But if I should give my top five anthems in this criteria, they are 1. Deep Purple - "Highway Star" 2. Judas Priest - "Screaming For Vengeance" 3. Iron Maiden - "Iron Maiden" 4. AC/DC - "For Those Who About To Rock" 5. Accept - "Balls To The Wall".
Other anthems (following the criteria) : Judas Priest breaking the Law AC\DC Back in Black Black Sabbath Iron Man Led Zeppelin Rock and Roll Ozzy Crazy Train Totally agree with all of Eddys choices.
Wow. I think Jim and Don need to have someone read (slowly) the criteria of TMS top 5 Anthems. Eddie nailed it. I mean Girls Girls Girls...Pantera...really?? Great songs great bands but certainly not anthems. Jim and Don....lay off the psychedelic drugs during the show please.
If someone could pass this to Eddie I'd appreciate it; Though the attempt at a restoration of Diary and Blizzard is a noble thing and I am glad that the travesty of the original rhythm tracks being removed has been rectified, the restoration is still suspect and here is why. Randy layered his guitar tracks to the point of ridiculousness. Sometimes the left side could be 4 or 5 guitars and the right side 4 or 5 more. He was a tone guy and he would use tracks for "support" of the sound. Maybe one or two predominant and the rest for texture. For example you'd be surprised how many acoustic guitars lay beneath those electric guitar tracks. Without Randy alive to re create it in the studio. There is no chance for an accurate re mix. A simple re mastering job on the original is what would be most accurate. I would be interested to know which they did. Re mix and re master or just remastered. Either way I can't afford a hundred plus dollars just to find out, LOL.
The best part of this episode was when the Brazilian chick called Don a perv...
What they had was not a proper list. Eddie had it more right even though it was vastly overplayed.
Top 5 anthems: 1. Aerosmith, Let the Music Do the Talking 2. Bon Jovi, Let It Rock 3. AC/DC, For Those About To Rock 4. Judas Priest, Heading Out To The Highway 5. Rainbow, Long Live Rock & Roll
