Dr. Tolin is taking the entire group on an overnight field trip to an abandoned hospital. Here, they must face various OCD triggers- including death, HIV, Cancer, blood & fears of the supernatural.
The APA would not endorse anything that would harm a patient and there are clear ethics...some of this stuff i think is either not real or was not done with the blessings of the apa...trust me I should know about this stuff.
i don;t get it either why are they making Kavin call up demons and stuff that not right.
I love Kevin. I love hearing him talk lol. He's like **** all of you.
ok, like.. kevin is also faced with religious standpoints.. he is worried about going to hell.. ya know??? that is WAYYYY different.. ya know?
;)
=] dont hex me now! hahaha
Exactly, that's what's hard for people to understand. Then people like us who know what's it's like are just like 'why are you so scared of him? He's not going to hurt you...'
omg first off, isnt that m&n comercial with the pretzel is halarious..lol. guys keep up your good work, all of you will make it thru this.
I feel the most for Jerry. I was diagnosed with OCD three years ago, and I have similar symptoms, and it has many different names: Thought Action Fusion, Pure-O, etc. These people have fear of killing others, and this is why people like Jerry are afraid to talk to people about their obsessions, because "normal" people find the thoughts and fears disturbing. The idea that "What if he does it to get it over with so the anxiety goes away" is most likely a fear he has himself. Imagine turning on the TV, with so many shows about Sociopathology, crime, violence, and you can't watch TV shows because the commercials talk about and glorify what you fear the most, which is harming someone. Those of you who may be afraid of someone with a condition like Jerry's can't even comprehend the fear that he or other people with his condition feel. They hate themselves because they know that what goes on in their head is something that will turn people away, and that is why they can spend so many years in solitude suffering in silence. For those of you who are afraid of people with Though Action Fusion, the research shows that people diagnosed with this condition never act on their thoughts.
Can someone explain to me how this mode of treatment got past the APA (American Psychological Association) Ethics Review Board? Some of the exposure treatments seem barbaric. Although they may help OCD, they can potentially open the door to PTSD.
How does he act like an 8 year old? You're probably not very familiar with OCD, but it does strange things to you.
I know that during the show it says "Day 1", "Day 2", "Day 3". I also know that Tolin has a very good pedigree as a psychologist and that Asperger's is in the DSM IV. That's all you need to know.
Kevin, I think its really cool that you reply to comments people make on here. Atleast you get to defend yourself. I really do think that you are a strong person for going through this treatment. Not only do you have OCD, but possibly another condidtion. So I wouldnt be so hard on yourself, remember you're possibly dealing with twice the problems than everyone else..and if you dont see your "line" go down..so be it, You're trying your best and are working through your issues at your own pace! Keep up the good work! Hopefully its comforting to know that you're not the only one who would be scared by those situations. Most people have something that they're afraid of, like hexes, or whatever, but in the end you just have to distinguish between whats reality and whats not. Hopefully this was even a little bit helpful! I look forward to seeing everyones progress on the next episode!!!
Jerry's just acts like an 8 year old. Seriously. A line is drawn between OCD and other psychiatric issues. Either this is a front - or a more serious issue.
I watch this show with my family, we know all about OCD, but they say they wouldn't want to be around Jerry (they think he's scary in a way). It's hard for some people to understand that it's the OCD telling him that and that he would never really hurt anyone, that's why Dr, Tolin keeps telling him to kill people, he knows that he won't. He has to prove it to Jerry. Also, did you just say that he should hurt someone, to get it over with?
I like that name for the Doc...Dr. Don'tgetit.
I wouldn't balme you if you did decide to leave the show. There are other therapist that can treat you. What "works" for one person, doesn't work for another. Just remember that you can't accidently "hex" someday. It's only an intentional act. You would do well to go to an Orthodox Church where they know that the spiritual realm is real and that you will have help in dealing with all of your fears.
Words can effect things in the spritual realm. This is not MY opinion. Catholics should know this...2,000 years of true Saints experiences say volumes. They teach that even saying the name of Satan draws him near.
Jerry's ocd is scary to me because you never know if after so long of having this one day he could wake up and think eventually hes going to hurt someone so might as well get it over with so this obsession about it will end.. Hope the Doc can help him
He was just trying to get him to realize it was an irrational thought that just by saying it over and over doesn't mean he has now wished himself to go to hell. He could have had an a-ha moment but it didnt quite get through yet.. He asked him his greatest fear and that was it
