Do you know what’s hotter than Ryan Gosling? Ryan Gosling fulfilling his civic duty by breaking up a fight in New York and spreading the peace — while wearing a tank-top. (He’s basically Superman or, like, Jesus.) And he’s not the only celebrity who has come to the rescue when us Earthlings were in need. Tons of A-listers have turned into super-humans and saved people from drowning, car crashes, and even burning houses. (We’re looking at you, Kate Winslet.) Who needs the Bat-Signal when you have Rob Lowe? Check out these stars’ beyond good deeds, and let us know what you think in the comments below.

According to TMZ, the Fantastic Four actor and his girlfriend helped pull a pregnant woman out of a dangerous rip tide in Miami. Talk about life imitating art.
Rob LoweGetty Image
While vacationing in Hawaii earlier this month, Lowe rushed to help passengers who fell overboard after their sailboat ran aground. According to Page Six, Lowe quickly jumped on a jet-ski and searched the rough waters for the missing people. Four out of five passengers were able to get on a life raft before the rescue mission. Looks like he’s putting that surprisingly hot body to good use.

The street fight heard round the world. The Huffington Post reports two pedestrians got into a tussle in New York’s East Village when one accused the other of stealing his painting. Just as things started to get physical, Gosling swooped in to break up the quarrel and talk some sense into the gentlemen. If that’s not epic enough, Gosling gave $20 to the artist to make sure the beef was really squashed. (We hope he also gave the guys signed copies of The Notebook, which we believe is the ultimate stress reliever.)
In 2010, T.I. literally managed to talk a man who was going to jump from a downtown Atlanta building off the ledge. TMZ reports that after hearing about the jumper from the radio, the rapper called Atlanta radio personality Ryan Cameron to see if he could help. He then filmed a video message that said, “Nothing is that bad. Nothing in life is worth taking your life. I’m here to help you. Please come down to talk to me.” After the police showed this to the suicidal man, he came off the building and met T.I. for a chat. How great is that? Creed frontman Scott Stapp also credits Tip with saving his life during a deep drug binge. In 2014, he came to the rescue after a car accident in Inglewood, Calif. (while he was on his way to Popeye’s).

Looks like Martin is doing tackling off the field as well. Complex reports the San Francisco 49ers offensive lineman spotted two shoplifters leaving a Versace store at the Beverly Center in Los Angeles earlier this month. He instinctively ran after the two crooks and was able to wrestle one of them to the ground. (He also threw some punches as well, which might have been a little excessive.) While one of robbers got away, security managed to take the other one into custody. Martin later tweeted, “Just took a dude out trying to rob a Versace store #CivicDuty.” We salute you, sir.

In August 2011, Winslet ran through Virgin Group mogul Richard Branson’s fire-stricken British Virgin Islands house and saved his 90-year-old mother. According to The Telegraph (via ABC News), Branson said, “My mum is 90 and can walk, but it was more just to speed the process up than anything else. But anyway, she was great. She swept her up into her arms and got them out of the house as fast as possible.” Rose would be so proud.
Garth and another unidentified man saved two boys from their Oklahoma home, which was in the path of a rapidly-moving fire. According to ABC News, Brooks and the other man knocked on the boys’ door (they were home alone) and managed to get them out before the blaze came their way. Looks like Brooks didn’t “stand outside the fire,” if you catch our drift.
As if you needed another reason to think Pitt is a total hunk, he saved a World War Z extra from getting trampled during a 700-person zombie takeover scene in 2011. According to the Los Angeles Times, the extra fell while they were shooting in Glasgow, Scotland’s George Square. Pitt sprung into action and picked up the woman before the hundreds of zombies could harm her. How do you return to normal life after Brad Pitt picks you up?
Tom CruiseGetty Images
Cruise’s Mission Impossible stunts look like basket-weaving compared to his real-life acts of heroism. E! reports that when Cruise was driving along L.A.’s Wilshire Boulevard in March 1996, he witnessed a hit-and-run accident that left one woman injured. Instead of whipping past the scene, Cruise pulled over and made sure medics were notified. He even footed the victim’s $7,000 bill because she didn’t have insurance. What a guy!
Sean PennGetty Images
After Hurricane Katrina devastated Louisiana in 2005, Penn did more than just write a check. He was one of the first celebrities to head down to New Orleans and help people in need. Penn personally drove a boat around flooded streets and saved 40 people from their destroyed houses. He then arranged for all of them to receive medical care. Charlize Theron is a lucky gal!
Arnold SchwarzeneggerGetty Images
Yahoo! reports the actor/governor/muscleman spotted a male swimmer in distress 100 miles off the Maui beach where he was getting some sun. Schwarzenegger quickly jumped into the water and pulled the man to safety. The Terminator still has it!
Harrison FordGetty Images
OK, this is some real-life Indiana Jones shit. According to ABC News, two young women were climbing Table Rock in Idaho when one hiker got sick from dehydration. The other girl called for help on her cell phone, and guess who showed up in a helicopter ready to save the day? Ford. Turns out, Ford frequently lends his aerodynamic #skillz to assist with rescue missions. It saves a whopping $1000/hour, which is the rate to hire a private pilot.
