Evelyn Lozada Lands The Cover Of 'Latina', Speaks Out About Domestic Violence
As we prepare for another season of Basketball Wives, our minds can help but think back to some of Evelyn Lozada's finer (read: dramatic) moments. Has it all been natural, or does she play things up for the cameras? "When we were in the middle of an argument, I wasn't thinking, 'Maybe this is going to be hurtful.' I was thinking, 'You're not gonna beat me in this argument!'" Evelyn says in the August issue of Latina magazine.
Looking gorgeous on the cover, the recent high school prom attendee opens up about one of the most difficult periods of her life, one that quickly exploded in the public eye: then-husband Chad Johnson's abusive behavior. "At that point, I knew my life would never be the same. I knew the world was going to laugh at me and be mean and nasty and blame me for everything," she says. "But I had no choice. I had to go to the hospital." But just because she's been known to get into it with her so-called friends and reality co-stars, does not warrant any kind of claim that she brought the destructive and violent behavior on herself. "A lot of people connected my previous actions on the show to this," she explains. "If they were talking about the incident on the news, there would be a clip of me acting a fool on Basketball Wives. I never lifted a finger at him." In addition to speaking out about her difficult experiences, Evelyn reveals she's working towards creating a foundation (Pain Is Not Love) that supports female victims of domestic violence. "I get e-mails every single day from women who are still with their abusive partner," she says "They’re like, 'I need help.'"
