Zella Day Attempts To Show Off Her Soccer Skills—But It Doesn’t End Well

The up-and-coming singer songwriter is earning comparisons to Lana Del Rey—and Pele?

Zella Day was really pumped to demonstrate her soccer skills on the beach at Hangout Fest, you guys. Her new album is called Kicker, so it seemed only right! But sadly the wind had other ideas when we presented her with a beach ball to show off her stuff. So we’re just gonna take her word that she’s got some fancy footwork.

The 20-year-old singer-songwriter’s self-titled EP is earning some major buzz, as well as comparisons to Lana Del Rey and (to her delight) Stevie Nicks. She dropped her latest single, “High” last week as a taste for her upcoming full-length, due out on June 2nd. “That song leans a little bit more rock and the rest of the record definitely has a deep-rooted rock spaghetti western style,” she tells us. “I’m from Arizona, I got a bit of twang in the songs.”

There’s also a lot of emotion in the songs. “If I’m just sitting down at the guitar, I want to cry sometimes. It doesn’t happen all the time, especially now that I’m playing way more now than I ever have in my whole life. But it does make me really emotional.”

Kicker is available for pre-order on iTunes now.
