David Letterman’s Psychotic Love of Drums Might Be His Greatest Musical Legacy

"Are those your drums? Beautiful drums!"

It's no question that David Letterman has one of the greatest musical track records in TV history. Everyone who's anyone in music has graced his stage at one time or another, and he's famously championed up-and-coming artists from Warren Zevon to Future Islands. But perhaps his greatest musical legacy is his almost unholy love of drums.

Seriously. The dude is really into drums, you guys.

The fine folks at CBC put together this incredible supercut of Dave expressing his child-like joy for drums on an enormous number of shows. "Are those your drums?" he asks pretty much every damn band who ever set foot in the vicinity of his desk. "Beautiful drums! Are those for sale?"

After a while, it made us think: does he not have a kit of his own? For his retirement present, let's all get together and buy him a brand new set of skins.
