Justin Bieber Tells Jimmy Fallon Why He Cried at the VMAs

"Last time I was at an awards show, I was booed," he said.

Justin Bieber was unexpectedly emotional at the VMAs Sunday night. The Biebs debuted new single "What Do You Mean?" live after performing popular Jack Ü collaboration "Where Are Ü Now." Justin flew into the air towards the end of his performance, and when he came back down, he cried.

Justin appeared on Jimmy Fallon last night to have a drum-off with Questlove and sing "Where Are Ü Now" as a country ballad. The Biebs also revealed to Jimmy why he shed tears after his VMA performance.

"It was so overwhelming for me — everything, the performance. I missed some cues, so I was a little disappointed at that," Justin said. "I just wasn't expecting [the crowd] to support me in the way they did. Last time I was at an awards show, I was booed."

The Biebs has been on a major mission this year to save his reputation. His VMA performance was a comeback moment for him. He faced the haters, put himself out there to be judged, and as he told Jimmy, it didn't go as smoothly as he wanted it to. No wonder he got emotional. Or, as Jimmy suggested, maybe the tears were because the Biebs' junk was getting pulled by the harness. Either or.

Biebs also announced that November 13 is the release date of his new album. Let the countdown begin, Beliebers. Stay tuned for new music in two months.
