Rejoice, pageant lovers. Your queen is returning home.
After more than 30 years since winning the crown, Vanessa Williams will return to the Miss America stage this Sunday, Sept. 13 at 9 p.m. on ABC as Head Judge.
Yes, Vanessa will join Brett Eldredge, Taya Kyle, Danica McKellar, Kevin O’Leary, Amy Purdy and Zendaya on the judging panel for the 2016 Miss America Competition broadcast, which celebrates its 95th anniversary.
If you remember, Vanessa won the title in 1984, but had to resign 10 months after being crowned when nude photos of her leaked.
“It was two drastically different images. That was the issue,” Vanessa told Robin Roberts in an exclusive interview with Good Morning America that will air Thursday. “It was Miss America who’s really kind of untouched in that reality. And then there was this woman in a picture.”
She continued, “That’s one of the problems that I’ve had to deal with for … my career. Not only being a Miss America, but being a scandalous Miss America.”
Despite the scandal, Vanessa’s career has been fab AF, with truckloads of Emmy, Grammy, and Screen Actors Guild Award nominations to her name. But her return to the Miss America stage might be the most epic move of all. Why? Because she’s about to show these pageant basics how it’s really done. She is the original beauty queen goddess, after all. These five throwback photos prove it.
Look at her posing with an apple like no other pageant girl can.
Her smize makes these flowers literally defy gravity. Can your fave do that?
Ready to sing/slay her way to the top.
These roses aren’t aware a GD legend is caressing their thorns.
“I see you over there trying.”
Bow down, tbh.
