No disrespect to those of you who like posting word memes consisting of remixed quotes you stole from Maya Angelou, Dr. Suess, Iyanla Vanzant, or Monica and Tess from Touched by an Angel on Instagram, but that does nothing for me. I need my motivation to come with some oomph, and ideally, sleek production value in the background.
So, I often turn to Nicki Minaj songs for daily affirmations about every facet of my life: when I need to feel my best Beyoncé; when I think I’m a Disney villain who needs to crush his enemies; when I feel like Janet Jackson’s fifth album; when I just got a haircut and feel amazing.
If you’re not already #TeamMinaj, allow me to show you which Nicki Minaj tracks can help you live your best life.
Not feeling like you’re getting your just due? Needing to reminding bitches who dafuq you is? I always turn to “No Flex Zone.” As much as I love the 2010s upgraded version of Kris Kross, Rae Sremmurd, and their version of this song, there is something more powerful about Nicki Minaj’s remix. I go into a trance when she starts saying, “They never could reach Young Nick magnitude even if they had the longitude, latitude.”
The same goes for “Yasss Bish!!” featuring Soulja Boy. “Bitches can’t beat me, they ain’t got the skill. Eye of the tiger, they ain’t got the kill. Look up to Jada, I love her and Will. Bitches my sons, but not my willllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll.” Why was this not included on The Pinkprint?
In any event, you can basically get your Snow Queen on and repeat this entire song line for line in front of the mirror before taking on the world, Monday. I highly advise it.
I would also recommend the following: Her verses on Juicy J’s “Low,” Young Thug’s “Danny Glover,” her own “Big Daddy” with Meek Mill, and Yo Gotti’s “5 Star Bitch” with Trina.
What about your friends?
Now, a lot of y’all have to say “hitta” instead, but the point is, when Nicki Minaj talks about coming through with a bunch of “bossy bitches” and coppin’ rides for her bitches, I think about the power of friendship. And a wave of happiness comes over me. Et tu?
When you’re in a THOTful mood.
The song is pure filth, but thankfully, pure filth works really well when you need to push yourself during a gym session. Or you know, try to get your gym crush/soulmate to catch you mid body roll. See also “Doin’ It Well” with Jadakiss, “Anaconda” (duh) and “Get Your Knees” with Ariana Grande (who is lowkey nasty).
Also: Her verses on “F**k U Silly” with Cassie, “Dang A Lang” with Trina and Lady Saw, “MILF” with Big Sean, and naturally, “Lil’ Freak” with Usher. These are great songs for leg days, FYI.
When you hate someone back.
Most of these songs are about Lil’ Kim, but that’s not my business. To that end, Nicki’s verse on the never really released but leaked “Tragedy,” her verse of Baby’s “Y.U. Mad,” “Getting Paid,”
When feeling lovey dovey.
Uh, I’ll give you her verse on DJ Khaled’s “I Wanna Be With You” and “Save Me.” That’s all I got for you. It’s not cuffing season yet, so mentally, not in this space. You understand, yes?
When you know you’re the 100 emoji.
Listen to “Shanghai,” “Want Some More,” “I Get Crazy,” “Come On A Cone.”
When you’re feeling yourself.
Who else listens to “Itty Bitty Piggy” regularly? Likewise, “I’m Legit” featuring Ciara is much better than Ciara’s “I’m On.” The hook alone can last you the day. Another Duh: “Feeling Myself” featuring Houston’s greatest creation. And you must put “Roman In Moscow” on repeat every once in a while. Oh yeah, one day I am going to stand on a table and shout out Nicki Minaj’s verse from 2 Chainz’s “I Luve Dem Strippers.” That is what triumph sounds like it.
Note: #TeamMinaj, Nicki’s catalog is as long as the lies being told in a presidential debate (pick any) so I worked in those that work for me. Feel free to chime in which ones serve you best.
