Who's The Greatest Rocker From Each Of The 50 States? Find Out!

Rockin’ greats from state-to-state.

Rock-and-roll, in keeping with the Bruce Springsteen song, was born in the U.S.A.

As such, America has regularly pumped out rock stars since the music’s revolutionary launch in the 1950s.

Below is a map of the continental 48, plus Alaska and Hawaii, marked with the biggest rock star born in each state.

Please note that distinction: these are the states where each of our highlighted rockers was born. Many of these star moved early (and often), and they tended to get famous far from where they very first started wailing.

Some selections are straight-up capital calls (Springsteen in New Jersey; Mellencamp in Indiana), others are surprising (Ric Ocasek’s from Baltimore, huh?), and a few, well—it’s best not to just leave a blank if it can be avoided and so, yes, John Denver and Mark Slaughter helped to make that avoidance possible.

Did your favorite United States of Rock citizen make the final map? If not, there’s little doubt you’ll let us know in the comments. Happy travels! And remember—Rock, bless America!
