The 'Transparent' Cast Served So Many Feels During Their 2015 Emmy Awards Speeches
Transparent is arguably one of the most important shows on television right now. The Amazon comedy focuses on Maura Pfefferman (Jeffrey Tambor), a political science professor who comes to terms with her transgender identity. Rightfully so, the show won big at the 2015 Emmy Awards, taking home Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series (Jill Soloway) and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series (Mr. Tambor). And both speeches were endearing AF. Why? Because they focused on the transgender community—so awesome.
First up was Jill, who gave a shout-out to her transgender father (who she called "mapa") and mentioned it's legal in 32 states for a landlord to deny her housing because of her identity. (So messed up!) "We don't have a trans tipping point yet. We have a trans civil rights problem," she said. Damn straight!
Jeffrey's speech was even more moving. He thanked the trans community directly for their relentless strength, and it made us tear up.
“Thank you for your patience,” he said. “Thank you for your courage, thank you for your stories, thank you for letting us be part of the change.”
So tender, right? Props for talking about transgender issues on primetime, bbs. So important! (We're sure Caitlyn Jenner is very proud!)
