Ed Sheeran and Bill Withers guest starred on The Late Show last night. The two are gearing up for a concert that will benefit the Stuttering Association for the Young, and appeared on the show to speak to Stephen Colbert about their experiences growing up stuttering.
Ed revealed that the incident that first caused him to stutter was when he got a birthmark near his eye lasered off. The doctors forgot to give him anesthesia, and the pain led him to develop a stutter.
“If I get under pressure, [the stutter] comes back,” Ed said. He also admitted that he was an awkward little kid who wore “big, big blue National Health glasses” and never went swimming because he’s missing an eardrum on one side. Ed thinks he was so strange as a child, God cut him a break by blessing him with musical talent.
“The reason I became a musician,” Ed said, “is that God looked down and said, ’You probably need some help getting laid.'”
“That’s what you call going from Ginger to a Ginger Snap,” Bill said in response. Bless Ed for his music, sex god-ness, and positive outlook on life. Let’s be real, he doesn’t need help getting laid anymore, right?
