Lynyrd Skynyrd's Last Original Member, Gary Rossington, Suffers Heart Attack

His daughter shared an update on his health status to Facebook.

Gary Rossington, the sole original member of Lynyrd Skynyrd, is under medical supervision after suffering a serious heart attack on October 8th. His daughter Mary Elizabeth posted a message to late lead singer Ronnie Van Zant's Facebook page, updating LS fans on Rossington's health status. “We were very close to losing him this time and just pray that they will develop even better techniques soon to deal with heart disease,” she writes.

The guitarist has reportedly been battling heart problems for more than a decade, including a quintuple bipass surgery in 2003. In fact, these prior surgeries has posed challenges for his current doctors. “They went in to repair and unclog the two stents they did previously in the year which had a blood clot," writes Mary Elizabeth. "[They also] added a third stent to one vein and in two weeks we will need to go in to do a fourth stent in one of his bypassed veins from 12 years ago.”

Support for Rossington has poured in from around the rock world. Former Skynyrd drummer Artimus Pyle shared his well wishes.

As did fellow Southern Rock greats, Foghat.

Everyone at VH1 also wishes him a speedy recovery.
