It’s been two years since Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus called off their engagement and parted ways, and Liam has nothing but beautiful things to say about his ex to this day. Do ex-boyfriends like this actually exist? I’m not saying all exes have to have bad blood, but Liam’s lovely words are enough to melt our ex-photo-burning (Taylor Swift-style), Tindr-swipping, icy and cynical hearts.
In Men’s Fitness, Liam acknowledges their five-year relationship, saying: “I don’t think those feelings will ever change. And that’s good because that proves to me that it was real. It wasn’t just a fling. It really was an important part of my life and always will be.”
But here’s my favorite from the hunky, newfound philosopher: “You fall in love with who you fall in love with; you can never choose.”
Love exists, guys. And not only do you not have to feel the innate need to bash your ex, but it turns out you can actually compliment and gush about them years after you break up. Liam did it, and boys, so can you.
“She’s a free spirit,” he says. “I think she’ll always surprise people with what she does, but she’s not a malicious person in any way. She’s a young girl who wants to do what she wants to do.”
