Celebrities Who've Clapped Back at Awful Sexist Questions

These stars stood up to sexism and we are standing up and applauding.

Mad Max: Fury Road is being called a feminist action delight, both in fist-pumping celebration by fans and in hateful whines from men's rights-types. So, naturally, star Tom Hardy got asked the most idiotic question on his press tour: Why so many women?

His response was actual, literal perfection.

But Hardy is hardly the only celebrity to stand up and say no to dumb, antiquated questions like this. Here are some of the best celebrity responses to sexist questions.

Jennifer Lawrence

Lawrence is not going to suffer someone's sh-t with a smile.

Hillary Clinton

Even possible presidents have to face moronic questions, and Clinton answered perfectly. Anyone ever care for even a second about a male politician's clothing? Well, except for that time everyone freaked out about President Obama's tan suit, but other than that, no.

Scarlett Johansson

Johansson has faced way too much idiocy in her time as Black Widow — from journalists and co-stars alike. And you can tell she's sick of it.

Anne Hathaway

Hathaway wore an outfit that was tight in The Dark Knight Rises. So did Christian Bale and Hardy. Guess who got the questions about her fitness routine?

Cate Blanchett

Blanchett, human boss machine, called out a leering camera man. No, Cate. They don't do that to the men.

Taylor Swift

Swift is not here for your questions about her love life.

Mark Ruffalo

Ruffalo, a proud feminist himself, got to experience for himself the kind of dumb questions women get when Cosmo UK asked him things more commonly asked of his co-star.

Nicki Minaj

Minaj told Time, "You never know how much is too much – too much emotion, too much vulnerability, too much power. Everyone wants me to be something different. Women in the industry are judged more. If you speak up for yourself, you're a bitch. If you party too much, you're a whore. Men don't get called these things."

Melissa McCarthy

A reporter had the audacity to walk up to McCarthy and tell her she looked bad in Tammy and should have looked prettier. "Would you do that to a man?...Just know every time you write stuff every young girl in this country reads that and they just get a little bit chipped away. I just think we tear down women in this country for all these superficial reasons and women are so great and strong."
