Jill Scott’s Soul Train Awards Set Made Half Of America Think Their TVs Were Broken

Mass hysteria? Almost.

Jill Scott celebrated her Lady of Soul award at the 2015 Soul Train Awards with a searing performance. Sounds innocent enough, right? But when BET got all arty and began broadcasting her set in black and white, they inadvertently sparked a nation-wide panic.

Yes, it seems like half of America believed their television sets had crapped out.

If it was intentional, it would have ranked among the most epic large-scale pranks in media history—up there with Orson Wells’ War of the Worlds. But rather than being panicked, many folks were just annoyed. Comparisons to weak instagram filters were also rampant.

Next time, try Valencia.
