The heat was heavy, but the spirit was light in Columbia, Maryland this past weekend.
Culinary lifestyle brand sweetgreen’s annual sweetlife festival lived up to its name, combining forward-thinking food businesses with lively acts of veterans and newcomers alike. It was the ultimate festival experience.
Acts included headliners Calvin Harris and Kendrick Lamar, who shared the stage with SZA and a fan who rapped “m.A.A.d city with him. You Oughta Know alums Vance Joy, Bleachers, and Tove Lo —who flashed her boobs yet again during “Talking Body”— played the festival, which wasn’t lacking in non-music-related activities. There were food trucks selling everything from veggie burgers with a side of corn to Vietnamese tacos and even Momofuku Milk Bar desserts. There were tents for cycling, tents in which you could get styled by Alex and Ani, tents to get gold and silver temporary tattoos, tents where you could make your own seltzer, and an arcade lounge.
Performance highlights included Charli XCX, Vic Mensa, emerging DJ Keylow, Phantogram, Raury, The Weeknd, Bishop Nehru, Marina and the Diamonds, and BANKS. As Raury noted, festivals are meant for people to see their favorites, as well as discover new talent. Sweetlife provided an arena to do both of these.
