Hillary Clinton Was an Artfully Shady Queen During Last Night’s Democratic Debate

So sneaky. So epic.

If you watched Thursday night’s Democratic debate in New Hampshire, then you saw our favorite side of Hillary Clinton–the delightful, deliciously shady side. (We haven’t seen it since Benghazi, so it’s been a while.) Clinton made it abundantly clear she was not here for Bernie Sanders’ suggestion she is nothing but a Wall Street figurehead more concerned with the “establishment” than the people. And she did this through side-eyes, shady glances and vicious, vicious words.

First, Clinton called out Sanders for his “artful smear” campaign against her, which generated more social media buzz than Kim Kardashian’s derrière. She also peppered in some Donald Trump digs and policy insults for good measure. In our eyes, Clinton won last night for her shadiness alone. We combed through the debate transcript and selected six moments that were particularly life-giving. Brace yourselves, kiddies. Mama is about to read.

  • “I’m not making promises that I cannot keep.”

  • “What I want to do is make sure middle class kids, not Donald Trump’s kids, get to be able to afford college.”

    Giphy
  • “Well because I am a progressive who gets things done. And the root of that word, progressive, is progress.”

  • “Senator, that in your definition, as you being the self-proclaimed gatekeeper for progressivism.”

    MSNBC
  • “Senator Sanders is the only person who I think would characterize me, a woman running to be the first woman president, as exemplifying the establishment.”

    MSNBC
  • “So I think it’s time to end the very artful smear that you and your campaign have been carrying out…”
