Dem Brooklyn Boys: 'Black Ink Crew''s Phoenix Stepped Out Of Dysfunction Into Dopeness

"One thing I learned from past seasons, is I don't think everyone is to focused on their tattoo work..."

Listen if for nothing else, you have to love Black Ink Crew for just how real they keep it on the show, which is why it makes perfect sense for Brooklyn born tattoo artist Phoenix to join the franchise this season.

The 28-year-old self taught artist admits that in life the struggle may have been real-- dealing with a mother who he despises, and finding himself homeless as a child but the struggle has not caused him to break. Black Ink Crew's newest cast member has found himself not only becoming one of NYC's most notable tattoo artists, but his tough times as a childhood has in turn made him a great parent to his own kids.

"By the time this season’s over I want people to understand that there is a struggle behind the bliss. There’s a reason why I’m on this stage this platform now. It’s not just given to me, I actually worked hard for it. I’m a family man, I’m a tattoo artist, I’m a father. I have my past and I just want them to see what’s real."

Don't miss Phoenix and the rest of the New York OGs when Black Ink Crew returns Monday, April 4th at 9/8c!
