George Zimmerman Is Reportedly Auctioning off the Gun He Used to Kill Trayvon Martin
This is not a good idea.
George Zimmerman, who was acquitted in 2013 of murdering 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, is reportedly selling the gun he used to kill Martin. TMZ reports that Zimmerman has listed the gun, a Kel-Tec PF-9 9mm, on GunBroker.com with an opening bid of $5000.
Zimmerman apparently called the weapon an "American Firearm Icon" and a "piece of American history" in his listing, and he reportedly plans on using the money he gets to counter both Hillary Clinton's campaign and the Black Lives Matter movement.
Zimmerman's listing on the site reportedly read as follows: "I am honored and humbled to announce the sale of an American Firearm Icon. The firearm for sale is the firearm that was used to defend my life and end the brutal attack from Trayvon Martin on 2/26/2012."
The gun doesn't appear to still be on GunBroker.com as of the time of this article and could have already been bought or taken off. Either way, the news, if true, is highly disturbing as Zimmerman appears to be trying to profit off of a weapon that has brought hurt and pain to so many, especially Martin's family.
More to come as details emerge.
UPDATE: 5/18/2016 2:15 P.M.
TMZ is reporting that Zimmerman's gun has sold for $120,000. The site reports that "seven verified users" took part in the bidding. United Gun Group reportedly pulled the auction a few days ago due to fake bids, but the gun has since sold.
