Watch Missy Elliott and Lil’ Kim Discuss the Thrill of Fame in This Amazing Throwback Video

Queens on queens on queens.

We are so excited to honor Missy Elliott and Lil’ Kim at VH1 Hip Hop Honors: All Hail the Queens, which airs live July 11 at 9 p.m. on VH1. They’ve given us so many amazing moments in the past–“Lady Marmalade!” “Not Tonight!”–and we can’t wait to see them together again. To wet our whistles until HHH, we unearthed this amazing throwback video of Elliott and Kimmie Blanco kicking it with Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes at the 1997’s MTV Video Music Awards. In the clip, the icons discuss what it’s like performing at a show like the VMAs, where it’s their peers, not fans, in the audience.

“When you’re younger, you always say, ’Damn! I can’t wait to meet this person.’ When you get in the industry, those same people that you can’t wait to meet be like, ’Damn! I can’t wait to meet Lil’ Kim. I can’t wait to meet Missy. I can’t wait to meet TLC, Left Eye.’ It’s very overwhelming,” Lil’ Kim said.

“You wouldn’t think Michael Jackson [would] ride down the street listening to a Kim record, but he probably is!” Elliott said.

He definitely did. And we do, too.
