VH1 Live!'s Marc Lamont Hill Addresses The Coogi-Sweatered Elephant in the Room at 'Hip Hop Honors'

Hill wasn't a fan of Rich Homie Quan's "drunk karaoke" version of Biggie's "Get Money."

Anyone who watched Rich Homie Quan's performance at VH1's Hip Hop Honors last Sunday night couldn't help but notice he dropped a few words from his rendition of Biggie's "Get Money" while singing with Lil Kim. In his own defense, Quan blamed the teleprompter and his anxiety for not being able to keep up on the verse. He also blamed being from the south, saying that he's not as familiar with New York rappers as he is with Atlanta-based acts. On last night's premiere episode of VH1 Live!, host Marc Lamont Hill threw some subtle shade at that defense, by referencing the greater impact of Quan's lyrical flub. "If we want hip hop to last forever," Hill said, "we have to make sure that the young ones actually listen to the classics like Rakim and Big and Pac, all of it. That way, we can keep the culture alive and we can inspire the next generation."

Tune in next Sunday at 10/9c for another episode of VH1 Live!
