John Amos Remembers the Time Eddie Murphy Pranked Him on the Set of 'Coming to America'

#FlashbackFriday

It was the late '80s and John Amos was trying to take a break. He had been filming for Coming to America and stepped outside for a breath of fresh air when a stranger started asking him a bunch of questions.

"He says to me, 'What do you do?' I said, 'Excuse me?' He says, 'What do you do? How come you're here on the Paramount lot?'" Amos recalls with VH1 hosts Michelle Buteau and Jade Catta-Preta. "I said, 'I'm shooting a movie with Eddie Murphy.' He says, 'I heard of Eddie Murphy, but what's your name?' I said, 'John Amos.' He said, 'I never heard of you.'"

Amos remembers the man's remarks annoying the hell out of him, but his rage turned to laughter when he found out that the man wasn't a stranger at all. It was Eddie Murphy in disguise.
