Hope Solo Forced to Take Several Seats After Trash Talking Sweden

Team USA announced that they're benching the soccer star for six months.

Life comes at you fast. Famous athletes are no exception.

Hope Solo has been suspended from U.S. soccer for six months because of her comments about Team Sweden after they knocked Team USA out of the Olympics earlier this month. The most inflammatory comment was Solo's declaration that Team Sweden is "a bunch of cowards," but her entire spiel was tinged with bitterness. Read the full quote below.

Yesterday, U.S. Soccer President Sunil Gulati released a statement condemning Solo's comments as "unacceptable" and said that they did not "meet the standard of conduct we require from our National Team players."

Gulati says that U.S. Soccer also took Solo's past actions into consideration. If you'll recall, she was suspended for 30 days last year after an incident that involved her husband, a U.S. team van, and drunk driving.

For what it's worth, Hope Solo released a statement of her own on Instagram.
