It's About Damn Time! RuPaul Wins First Emmy For Hosting 'Drag Race

"I dedicate this win to the 100 queens of #DragRace & to outsiders everywhere"

RuPaul is finally a winner. After eight seasons, the RuPaul's Drag Race host won an Emmy this weekend for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program during the Creative Arts Emmys ceremony in Los Angeles. RuPaul may have been the most shocked one of all, as he faced some tough competition, going up against category mainstays like Tom Bergeron (Dancing With the Stars), Ryan Seacrest (American Idol) and Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn (Project Runway), as well as Steve Harvey (Little Big Shots), and Jane Lynch (Hollywood Game Night).

Upon winning, Ru tweeted his surprise:

And after further reflection, posted a heartfelt note of thanks to his fans and supporters:

Backstage at the event, RuPaul said, "I really didn’t expect this. I came here thinking I got invited to the prom and I’m going to dance my ass off tonight, but i didn’t expect that I would have this in my hand while I was dancing. It’s a very special night not just for me but for all the young people around the world who dance to the beat of a different drummer."

RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars is currently airing on Logo Thursdays at 8/7c.
