'Dating Naked's' David Says He and Natalie Have a Relationship, Just Not A Romantic One and The Next Woman He Dates Will Be His Wife

"Ideally the next person I’m in an exclusive relationship with will be my wife."

We know guys are a little bit slower, so you get a pass David.

Unlike Natalie, David didn't know from the beginning that he wanted Natalie to be his one and only by the season finale of Dating Naked. David was seemingly clueless to Natalie's hints throughout the season, but that didn't stop Natalie from following her heart. In the fourth quarter, David finally realized what Natalie was not-so-subtly telling him all along. They may have left paradise together, but things definitely changed after this "awww-filled" moment:

Now that they put on clothes, it seems David has had a change of heart. In this exclusive interview with VH1, David tells us about his current relationship with Natalie, even though things didn't work out "that" way.

VH1: How was your overall Dating Naked experience?

David: It’s by far the most unique thing I’ve ever done in my life. In life you have certain moments that are singular experiences and this was definitely one of those. I’m very thankful and humbled and fortunate to have experienced something like that, and it changed my life in several different aspects.

What made you pick up and leave Atlanta to do Dating Naked?

It was over a couple week period that the whole process happened. So, at first when I initially thought of the concept of going on Dating Naked like, “Nah I can’t go on Dating Naked.” You know? So it was definitely an interesting transition from "no" to “All right, I’m going to get naked on TV and do all these dates.”

After speaking with Natalie, she says you two still have a great relationship, especially after the passing of her brother. Can you elaborate on your relationship?

We’re not in a relationship. Natalie and I are not in a relationship. We have a relationship, but we’re not in a romantic relationship in that regard. It’s funny because you go to Bora Bora and you connect in such a way that you know it’s so unique and so special. We’ll always be connected in that way, and we have a beautiful relationship, and I can genuinely say that you know that our relationship in a great place. It’s just that we’re not in a romantic relationship.

Are you still in communication with Michelle?

I wouldn’t say that there’s anybody in the cast where lines of communication are closed. Really anybody. I think we’ve done a good job for pretty much everybody. Right after the show, we’ve all done a pretty good job staying in contact with each other. I like to think that I’m even more attainable and social outside of Bora Bora than I was even in Bora Bora. I think that was important to me because sometimes it was difficult for people to get an exact feel for what your personality is in that setting and I’m somebody that loves people. So I was very fortunate to be a part of a great cast. There are a lot of great people in the cast, and I’ll see a bunch of them in Atlanta here in a week or so.

Do you regret letting any of the women go?

Of course. This is the thing: There was such a condensed amount of time to get to know people and the setting is so different than normal, so you always wonder, “Did I make the right decision here? Did I make the wrong decision there?” But you kinda gotta go with it. That’s how life is. You make decisions in life. Once you make decisions, you can’t go back and second guess them because you’ll drive yourself crazy. There’s a whole bunch of "hypotheticals" that I wish maybe I would’ve done differently. I can’t change it. I really do think as far as things go, I was very very fortunate to meet some wonderful women. If we didn’t get along romantically, I truly can’t think of anybody that I have anything negatively to say about us as individuals. So I’m very very fortunate in that regard.

After looking back at the episodes, were you surprised how Michelle was acting?

Yeah. You’re always surprised how everybody is, but there’s limited information. You have to think that y’all see an hour for a week or so of what really happened. So a lot of times it’s funny, people are quick to form opinions and judge the character of an individual – good or bad – based off of the hour they see on TV. Sometimes that works to the benefit of that particular episode, sometimes that works to the detriment. So it is what it is. It’s what you sign up for. I think it’s great entertainment and it was a wonderful experience.

Are you dating anyone now or interested in dating anyone now?

Oooooh! Well, you know I’m dating. You know I’m dating. I’m dating, I’m dating. That’s a difficult question right now just because I look at dating differently now. It changed me, going to Bora Bora. You look on the outside and think, “I’m going to Bora Bora, I’m gonna be naked with 20 something women,” right? You think that’s a dream, right? And in a lot of ways it can be, but in a lot of ways it really is not, because you gotta manage emotions. You have to come to grips with your own. You have to really go to try to better yourself as a person, which I really wanted to purpose myself to do, then you also have to take a look at where you may not have been good at dating before. I’m 31, so being in this place, ideally the next person I’m in an exclusive relationship with will be my wife. So at this time, I’m looking forward to being in a place where I can prepare myself to be the man that I need to be.

What took you so long to kiss Natalie?

I never knew how to handle the Natalie dynamic, it’s just always been a different dynamic. Natalie and I have a special relationship. We have from day one and it’s been difficult to figure out like “Do we give into this right away? Do we make this romantic right away? Do we not make this romantic right away?” I think that’s something that we’ve always been a balance that’s impossible to figure out because of how we handle our relationship. But we talked about it throughout the show because we always want to be in each others lives. It’s like do we? Don’t we? In life you only get to marry one person. So if it doesn’t work out with that person, you lose each other most times. I think what we have allowed happened in our relationship is the fear of losing each other and the desire not to lose each other has superseded the desire to see if we can make something romantic work.

Love is complicated.

Right? I guess this is what I’m saying. I guess all of that was to say that I’m a big chicken. For example, her brother passed away, and I can genuinely be there for her, and genuinely be empathetic, and genuinely want the best and if it doesn’t work out and something happens in that regard, I can’t even be there for her really. I mean you can, but it’s different. It’s different, you know? And I feel like it was there was a certain point in time for me where it became so important for me to always be a part of her life. That became very important to me.

Final question, the people want to know, when you got back to the states, what was the first thing you ate?

When I got to LA and I had a big greasy ass burger with fries. I think I had a apple pie or a milkshake, one. I had been doing so well. I was like in pretty good shape out there and then I got back. I seen this burger, I’m like [laughs]. I’ll tell you, watching myself on there, I was working out pretty consistent. I’m not in terrible shape, but man, I was getting pretty good by the end of the season.
