Before Aziz Ansari and Tatiana Maslany won Emmy Awards (Ansari for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, Maslany for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series), the two actually starred opposite one another on NBC’s Parks & Recreation. In case you’ve forgotten about Maslany’s appearance on Parks & Rec, we found a vintage clip of the 2013 episode from the show’s sixth season, where she plays a Doctors Without Borders doctor that Tom tries to impress with a smooth but fake English accent.
Maslany, who studied improv comedy before taking on her role(s) on Orphan Black showed off her comedy nerdiness in this 2014 Vanity Fair interview where she admitted that she actually memorized Ansari’s stand-up routine and knew it perfectly before she even met him.
Ansari shares a mutual admiration, revealing in a 2013 interview that he is obsessed with Orphan Black. “I just started binging through [Orphan Black],” he says. “So it’s so funny to be watching, obsessed with the show, and be like, ’Holy s**t, she’s so amazing!’ and then to be working with her. It’s pretty weird! But I’m trying not to show too much of my fanboy colors and scare her.”
We’re sure Parks & Rec mama bear Amy Poehler (an Emmy winner herself this year) is feeling like a proud right now.
