Teyana Taylor Can Have It All "I never had the time to fail, to fall and get back up and try again…” Teyana reflects on motherhood, music and why her star turn in the #Fade video could only have happened now in her #LivingForFashion cover story. #AlbertWatson Styling by @annatrevelyan Hair by @tomi_kono Makeup by @missayaminishimura
The 25-year-old songstress revealed that her new journey in motherhood was essential to the success of the “Fade” video. “I honestly don’t feel like ’Fade’ would have had the same effect had I just been 21, hot body, single,” she explained.
Taylor continued, “It was more than just dancing in a sports bra and a thong. You can be superwoman. You can have it all, that balance in your relationship, your family and your career. It’s the opposite of the cliché that says kids will slow you or your career down.”
Taylor, who paid homage to Grace Jones in her Paper mag photo spread, also shared that seeing fashion icon Anna Wintour at the Yeezy Season 4 fashion show made her a bit nervous. “I saw the posture, I saw the bangs, I saw the bob and I saw the shades, and I said, ’Anna’s here.’ That’s when my nervousness really turned up. I love Anna. I’m obsessed with her. So, to know she was there, that she knows who I am…”
Teyana Taylor is also gearing up for a recurring role on VH1’s upcoming series The Breaks and is set for a stint on Hip Hop Squares.
We caught with on the set of The Breaks to talk about her performance in the “Fade” and more.
