This is How Chrisette Michele is Clapping Back at the Inauguration Performance Criticism

Name-drop galore!

After performing at Donald Trump's Inauguration, Chrisette Michele received viral backlash from fans and celebrities on social media. In response to the performance, she released "No Political Genius." The single serves as the title track from her forthcoming album addressing the controversy surrounding her performance at the Liberty Ball as well as Spike Lee’s decision not to use her music in his upcoming Netflix series, Black Girl Magic.

“I am the black song Spike Lee won’t sing/I am the black voice inauguration bells ring,” Michele begins the song.

In another lyric from the track, Michele calls out past collaborator Questlove, who also criticized her decision to perform for Trump: "For John Lewis and Ben Carson/Questlove, Spike Lee, and before them/I won’t divide now/That’s not smart now/God before me, I won’t back down/This is my damn America now."
