Mahershala Ali Takes The Oscar For Best Supporting Actor and Blesses Us With The Sweetest Speech

Bravo!

It's been a long time coming, but Mahershala Ali has finally taken home the Oscar win for Best Supporting Actor. This makes Ali the first Muslim to win an Academy Award.

He was nominated alongside Jeff Bridges (Hell or High Water), Lucas Hedges (Manchester by the Sea), Dev Patel (Lion) and Michael Shannon (Nocturnal Animals). He also won this year’s SAG Award and Critics’ Choice Award for his role as Juan in Moonlight.

During his emotional, heartfelt speech, the Moonlight star thanked his teachers for instilling in him the best principles and lessons in theater an actor can have. He also paid gratitude to the film's director Barry Jenkins and his manager of ten years.

The new father also gave a sweet shout out his wife and newborn baby girl.

Congratulations Mahershala and the Moonlight crew!

We're wishing all the best to Mahershala's future in Hollywood, and he might need it given these strange conspiracy theories that all revolve around the Academy Awards.
