We Need to Talk About All of the Symbolism in Get Out

Prepare to be blown away.

It’s been a week since the release of the critically-acclaimed thriller Get Out, written and directed by Jordan Peele. *If you haven’t seen Get Out yet, beware of spoilers ahead.*

With this film, Peele veers sharply from his usual lane of comedic genius and brings the terror of being Black in America into focus. Each scene gets creepier than the next as the main character Chris realizes there’s something very strange about his White girlfriend’s family and their obsession with Blackness. The movie gets so intense, you might have to watch it twice to catch all the symbolic meanings and tropes weaved into the film. Or…you could let us break it down for you.

Let’s start unpacking it all, shall we?

From bars to restaurants to musicals, interracial couples give us all the details and discuss the initial chemistry they felt on their first dates.
