Bonus Clip: Star Jones Explains Her Inspiration For Bringing Janet Mock and Norm Lewis to 'Daytime Divas'

"You and Vanessa Williams are fire and desire on screen."

Before Daytime Divas even came to our living rooms, executive producer Star Jones has been super transparent about her casting choices. Not only did she always have Vanessa Williams in mind for the role of Maxine, she also had Norm Lewis on the brain as Maxine's love interest (and doorman) William. According to Star, Norm is "strong, dignified, fine as hell and knows how to put the HBIC in check when she needs it" and we couldn't agree more. Talk about checking all the boxes!

Maxine and Williams' romantic chemistry definitely heats up on screen and gels perfectly with the "fun, fire and diva drama" spilling over in this show within a show, but Star always knew she needed a guest star with a lot of heart. That's exactly what Janet Mock's special ingredient is. The bestselling author and trans activist has kicked down many doors for the trans community, and her bravery and passion inspires Daytime Divas fans to have a little empathy for the sometimes problematic characters on the show (specifically Heather, who is struggling with her own young son's own transgender identity.)
