Brandy Had Time For Trolls Who Accused Her of Being Petty Over Her Bond With Whitney Houston

Y'all ?? gonna ?? learn ?? today ??.

Today would have been Whitney Houston’s 54th birthday, which is the perfect opportunity to celebrate the influence she left in music and pop culture. Sadly, this day also brought forth a whole lot of unnecessary drama involving Brandy, Monica and social media.

It all started when singer Monica posted a tribute to Whitney Houston early this morning, sharing a brief but heartfelt happy birthday message to one of the greatest singers of all time.

Happy Heavenly Birthday Nippy ... You still inspire many & touch hearts daily... You will forever be the greatest .... You will forever be missed ❤️

Shortly afterwards, Brandy followed-up with her own series of posts honoring her "fairy godmother" while claiming that Whitney "passed her the torch" before she died.

Lord have mercy on my soul!!! Happy Born Day Whitney. You live on in me... I can feel your Spirit inside of me and all around me. My angel, my friend, my fairy God Mother. I love you forever... thank you for trusting me with the torch!!! I remember every moment with you and I and I will cherish these miraculous moments forever and ever! I love you.... 8/9-2/11 #WhitneyHouston

She also shared a throwback clip confessing that Whitney is her idol...

Nippy, I wanted to be exactly like you... mannerisms and all... I didn't have your Range but everything else I could do that you did I tried to do. Then It dawned on me, I can never do what you did exactly the way you did it and then I found myself being like myself because of everything you taught me! You said, be yourself and later on after you said that, I became my own artist but with your inflections. Happy Birthday... you live on in me and no one on this planet loves you the way I do.(yeah I said it because that is what I believe) There is not a day that goes by that I don't think of you.

...and another one thanking Whitney for the mark she left on the world.

Happy Birthday #WhitneyHouston ?The Greatest of All Time!!!! You left your mark by touching every soul that has ever heard you sing!!!!!!

The nature of Brandy's posts, and her very strong emphasis on their close bond, had fans thinking she was being intentionally shady towards Monica. It also doesn't help that the rumors of Brandy and Monica's backstage feud have been running for eons. Welp, if petty is what the people wanted, they definitely got it. Not only did Brandy take the time to address the Instagram trolls head on...she also threw some very direct shade at Monica aka "Oh Girl."

While it does make sense that Brandy feels sentimental about Whitney's death falling on her birthday, Twitter couldn't help but poke fun at her relentlessness to prove just how close they were:

But trust and believe, folks like Keke Palmer will never allow Brandy slander on her watch...

While shooting her video just two days after Whitney Houston's passing, Brandy shares her thoughts with the Behind The Music cameras.
