Trailblazing comedian and civil rights activist Dick Gregory has died at the age of 84. Gregory's son Christian Gregory announced the devastating news via social media and revealed that more details would be announced within the upcoming days. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Gregory succumbed to heart failure.

A native of Washington D.C., Gregory made a career out of his unique sense of humor but ultimately abandoned his journey in comedy in favor of activism.

Dick Gregory was known widely as a civil rights advocate and often encouraged fasting as a means of bringing forth positive energy.
