All the Times Beyonce Did Something Because Jay Z Started Tidal

Not that anyone's complaining. We're here for it.

When Tidal started putting emphasis on its “exclusive content” upon its launch, my first thought was, Beyonce. She and whatever she was willing to put up on that platform were enough to persuade people like me to cancel their Spotify subscriptions and flock to Tidal like blind sheep. My second thought was that Rihanna might release her R8 album on the platform, but at this point, only the man upstairs and RiRi know what’s going on with that.

I will never complain about exclusive Bey content — hell, I’m paying actual dollars for it. But between that off-putting “Drop It For Summer” playlist and now, headlining the Tidal X concert, I can’t help but wonder how many more times Bey is going to be asked to do something for Tidal. Sure, she’s a co-owner, along with Madonna, Kanye West, Daft Punk, Jack White, Alicia Keys, and Nicki Minaj, but at the end of the day, it’s Jay Z’s venture. He and Bey are thick as thieves, but at what point does Bey put her foot down?

Here are all of the times Beyonce has done something for Tidal in promotion of it. The Stevie Wonder “Happy Birthday” video doesn’t count. It’s golden.

  1. When she got back on Twitter after not tweeting for almost TWO YEARS to change her avatar and cover photo.

Probably had to hit up the Beygency for that login info, too.

  2. When she showed up to the Tidal conference to support and posed for this awkward as hell photo with Rihanna.

Not even the photographer had the balls to ask them to look more natural.

  3. When she released the video for “Die With You” (which Jay Z FILMED) on Tidal so we’d all sign up for the free trial.

Let’s be real, though. This was a selling point for many non-Tidal plebeians.

  4. When she made us finally pay for a subscription so we could see the “Feeling Myself” video.

Nicki and Bey filmed the visuals at Coachella, which took place in April. Don’t act like they didn’t wait to drop this ish until May, when your free trial was up.

  5. When she made that questionable “Drop It For Summer” playlist.

The playlist featured “some of Beyonce’s favorite dance songs to drop it to,” but it ended up being anticlimactic, as most of the tracks on it — “Stanky Legg,” “Wobble,” “Cupid Shuffle,” for example — had peaked years ago.

  6. When she had someone (probably Jay again) shoot a two-second clip of just her face for co-owner Madonna’s “Bitch I’m Madonna” video.

Everyone else who phoned-in their cameos got all done up for the occasion. Bey went au naturel.

  7. When she agreed to headline the Tidal X: 10/20 concert.

    Tidal

Bey will be headlining Tidal’s charity concert celebrating 1 million subscribers along with Jay Z, Nicki Minaj, Prince, Usher, and T.I. All of the proceeds will be donated to nonprofit organizations via New World Foundation.
