Veronica Vega became a Twitter trending topic last night thanks to a very controversial scene from last night’s episode of Love & Hip Hop Miami. As she’s kicking it with her bestie Steph Lecor, in walks Trina for a friendly visit. They start chopping it up about Veronica’s popular single “Pay Me,” when Trina mentions the fact that some people weren’t really fond of her using the N-word.
Veronica’s explanation of the word and why she feels comfortable using it didn’t exactly satisfy some viewers. Watch the highlight below:
Veronica Vega defended her right to say the N-word based on where she grew up and the experiences she’s faced in life. But that doesn’t mean everyone is buying it. Some think Veronica isn’t fully grasping the complicated history of that word and why its not hers to reinvent. Some even feel she’s being hypocritical considering she told Amara to get over her Young Hollywood’s insensitive comments about her hair.
So Veronica Vega can freely say nigga, but can’t understand why her friend Amara has issues with colorism.

Veronica Vega loves saying nigga and claiming to be black but when it comes to defending and supporting darker skin black women like Amara shes quiet #LHHMiami

WAIT. SO VERONICA VEGA THINKS SHE CAN SAY THE WORD NIGGA, NOT BECAUSE SHE’S BLACK, BUT BECAUSE SHE CLAIMS WHITE PEOPLE MAKE HER FEEL “OTHER”?!

I just seen a clip of @VeronicaVega tryna justify the use of nigga and girl stfu.
1.) idgaf if you grew up using it, UNLEARN it cause you don’t need to be using it. It’s not yours to use. It was never used against you so why think it’s okay to use it?

This commenter from Miami added some interesting commentary on the importance of Veronica being from the Hialeah area and why it matters.
Everybody in Miami know that Miami Cubans don’t consider themselves BLACK so no Veronica Vega not allowed to say nigga #LHHMIA

Some feel as though the Veronica Vega controversy is over-hyped, since she’s not the first Hispanic to use the word either in music or conversationally.
So Cardi B can say nigga but Veronica Vega can’t?

Lol at all these black people mad at Veronica Vega (a white latina woman) for using the N word but still let Cardi B (a racially ambiguous latina woman) use it on account of she’s “black” . I guess they all can’t scam their way to the cook out but I’m schleep ☕️ #LHHMIA pic.twitter.com/oO1qZ62j71
