Mothers just want what’s best for their kids. Or, at least, what they THINK is best for their kids. And the moms of Love & Hip Hop take that concept and run with it. You can count on women like Mama Dollaz, Ms. Shirleen and Safaree’s mom Shirley to protect their next of kin and run interference on their relationships when necessary, just to make sure everyone’s happy. Whether that means meddling in relationships, offering career advice, or having difficult conversations that end in tears, you can count on these moms to be tough but tender and bring the real to reality TV.
On Love & Hip Hop Hollywood, Sonja Norwood comes off as a tough, no nonsense woman, and as Ray J’s mom and manager, she’s always kept an eye on his business and personal affairs. She’s also been especially hard on his wife, Princess, but sometimes a heart to heart is what’s needed to resolve some old issues and move on.
Safaree has jumped from city to city and woman to woman on Love & Hip Hop, and his mother Shirley has had enough of those shenanigans. She’s raised her son to seek out a nice, classy woman she can approve of, and in this hilarious moment from Love & Hip Hop New York, she lets him know exactly what his type should be.
The saga of Rasheeda and Kirk has lasted for seven seasons on Love & Hip Hop Atlanta, and Rasheeda’s mom has been in her corner at every step. Ms. Shirleen doesn’t just lend an ear to her daughter though, she tells it like it is and offers some very real, and often harsh, advice to her daughter, like in this clip when she suggests they get a separation.
Much like Safaree’s mother, Rich Dollaz’s mom Jewel has no patience for her son’s foolery. When Rich tells her about his latest girlfriend, the married Anais, she rightly puts him in his place and tells him there’s NO excuse for that kind of messy relationship.
Someone has to keep these cast members in line, and when it gets down to it, you can count on the tough love of a mom to do the job.
