D.R.A.M.'s "Cha Cha" Is the Song of the Summer You Haven't Been Listening to

Could the Song of the Summer be one that's not charting Billboard yet?

This summer is seriously lacking jam-wise. Or so it seems.

Look no further than the title of Maroon 5's "This Summer's Gonna Hurt Like A Motherf*cker" to get the gist of how 2015's crop top-wearing season is shaping up musically. Demi Lovato's "Cool For The Summer" is the closest thing we have to a quintessential "pop summer jam," but even it fails to emulate the sun-kissed euphoria produced by Katy Perry's "California Gurls" or Miley Cyrus' "We Can't Stop."

The jury is still out on what the song of the summer will be, though some are already pointing to Tori Kelly's "Nobody Love," The Weeknd's "I Can't Feel My Face," or even OMI's "Cheerleader" as contenders. I'm proposing this year's summer jam isn't one that's already charting Billboard: "Cha Cha" by D.R.A.M.

This is the sort of song you can't not dance to. The melody is simple, but infectious. It's an immediate classic. "I like to cha-cha." Who doesn't?

Beyonce definitely does, as evidenced by this Instagram of her dancing to the song.

This also happened.

Tidal made D.R.A.M., whose mixtape is called #1EpicSummer (I mean, come on), one of its featured artists a few months back. Lion Babe told us they couldn't stop listening to the song. Raury's a huge fan, too.

"Cha Cha" has gained popularity among artists and music professionals, but the song has yet to be widely received among consumers, probably because it hasn't had that much circulation. It could also be due to the fact that not that many people have even heard of D.R.A.M., yet. He has about 7,000 Twitter followers and under 2,000 Facebook likes right now.

Having said that, the video for "Cha Cha" alone has over 2 million views. With its catchy hook, hazy vibe, and the backing of Beyonce, D.R.A.M.'s hit has what it takes to be the Song of the Summer. What do you think?
