Kelly Clarkson Demolished Her Cover Of Prince's "Purple Rain"

QUEEN of covers and causing mass quantities of tears.

There is no denying Kelly Clarkson is the undisputed goddess of covers. She's tackled everything from Nick Jonas to Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus. But homegirl took it to the next level this past Tuesday: Prince.

Kel made a stop in St. Paul, Minnesota earlier this week on her Piece by Piece Tour, and a fan requested she sing the rock icon's seminal classic "Purple Rain." (Quite fitting, because Prince hails for Minneapolis, Minnesota.) Karaoke-esque covers are a Piece by Piece Tour staple; a fan in each city picks one song—any song—for Lady Clarkson to belt. And this one was a doozy.

"I ask you to love me, and not judge me, because it's such a great classic song from someone from here," she told the audience beforehand.

Why was she worried?! Bae killed it. Kelly sounded pitch perfect—as per usual—and sprinkled her own sparkly pop/rock fairy dust on the track. (Plus, holy s—t: Those high notes!)

Does anyone else think it's about damn time for K to release a covers album? We'd buy one. Or 17.
