We’ve all been here: You’re watching Tyler Oakley slay on YouTube and think, “Man, I wish there was an award for this guy, because he gives me life on a daily basis.” Fear not, loves, because your prayers have been answered: the Streamy Awards!
Wait, whaaaat? The Streamy Awards is an event that tributes the best and brightest in online video creation—the talent, writers, editors, and everything in between. This will be the Streamy Awards’ fifth year honoring your Internet faves but its first time doing it on television. Yup! Mark your calendars, bbs—the show airs September 17 at 10 p.m. ET on VH1 and all our digital platforms.
But you don’t have to wait that long for some Streamy goodness. The show’s official website launches Wednesday, August 12—that’s tomorrow!—along with this year’s nominees. Check back here tomorrow for all of those goods.
And don’t worry, we understand if you’ve never heard of the Streamy Awards. The Internet is a huuuuge place, and you can’t possibly have everything on your radar. (Unless you’re, like, digital queen Kylie Jenner. But who has time to take that many selfies?) We consider ourselves teachers at VH1, so we put together a handy-dandy video to show you how awesome—and important—the Streamy Awards is. In fact, some even call it the Oscars of the Internet.
Kick back, grab some popcorn, and watch the clip above. Trust us: This is the show you need to know. You’ll instantly become ~HiP* and up to date after watching. Guaranteed.
See y’all tomorrow for the website launch and nominees announcement!
