It's not a hip-hop debate until there's a healthy argument. MTV's "Hottest MCs in the Game VIII" roundtable discussion got a little heated when it was time to rank Big Sean and Kanye West.
Yeezy didn't deserve to make the list, according two of the Hip-Hop Brain Trust. Damn Yeezy. Since the birth of MTV's list Ye has never made less than top five, but apparently 2012 was not his year. While the Detroit player sat pretty at No. 8 an overwhelming vote pushed Big Sean ahead of his boss to No. 6 leaving Yeezy at No. 7. As much as Ye is the mastermind behind his G.O.O.D. Music crew, the boi who coined swerve outshined everybody on Cruel Summer.
"It was a lukewarm compilation," said Renaud Jean-Baptiste, story producer for MTV 2's "The Week in Jams" also arguing Sean was the star. Big Sean was not only able to shine from the compilation, Detroit was arguably the most solid project he's released to date. Over in Berlin Big Sean got word of his rank and tweeted, "Wow thanks to @MTV 4 saying I was a star on Cruel Summer n My Detroit mixtape n features were crazy last year. #6 hottest MC is awesome..." He followed up by letting his 3.9 million followers know he's coming for that top five spot next year. "I promise Hall Of Fame won't disappoint... I spent a lot of time on it to make it just right... n next year we'll at least be top 5 MC's."
Meanwhile Drake came in at No. 5 leaving a gaggle of contenders-- Kendrick Lamar, 2 Chainz, Nas, Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross, Wiz Khalifa and more--vying for the top 4 spots. Was Sean the hottest MC in the game over his boss Kanye? Take our poll to let us know your thoughts!
