Kelly Clarkson Shimmies Her Way Through An Elegant Solo Performance Of "Don't Rush"

It's really difficult for a country music layperson like myself to keep track of all the different awards shows the genre supports. In addition to being featured on cross-genre shows like the Grammys and the Billboard Music Awards, country artists are seemingly feted on a monthly basis by the Academy of Country Music, the Country Music Association, and the American Country Awards. We're never quite sure who is winning what where, but we definitely paid attention to last night's Academy of Country Music Awards, which featured another amazing performance by Kelly Clarkson.

Kelly performed a slow burn take on "Don't Rush" last night, an original off her Greatest Hits: Chapter One LP that came out during the holiday season last year. Unlike "Catch My Breath," which is a kinetic pop song, this track has more of a torch and twang feel to it, which makes perfect sense considering it was written by three country writers: Blu Sanders, Natalie Hemby and Lindsay Dawn Chapman. Sadly, Vince Gill was not up on stage adding harmonies like he does on the studio take, but Kelly looked cool and confident as she swayed and shimmied to the easy going beat. It's no surprise that her voice is adept enough to fit within the boundaries of multiple genres, but after watching how relaxed she seemed on stage alongside country musicians last night, we wouldn't be surprised if Kelly decided to put out a full-on country album one of these days.
