What do you get if you take one cup of the spoken word intro Eminem's "Lose Yourself," mix in some of Usher and David Guetta's "Without You," and top it off with a healthy dose of Pitbull & Ne-Yo's "Give Me Everything"? Well, my friends, you have a recipe for a summer smash, served up to you by none other than Jason Derulo. Yes, his new song "The Other Side"* seems to have all of the ingredients to become a Song Of The Summer contender.

This year's frontrunner for Song Of The Summer status remains Daft Punk's "Get Lucky," but Derulo's spin on the age-old "We've got tonight, who needs tomorrow?" (Bob Seger was so ahead of his time!) justification for casual sex feels like the kind of thing that you'll hear blasting on Top 40 radio stations for the next 4 months or so. That said, try and try as record labels might to turn the creation of pop hits into an easily repeatable formula, it remains to be seen whether or not Derulo's song will catch on like the other aforementioned tracks did. The song, which was released in mid-April, is currently hanging out at #57 on the iTunes Singles chart, which is a good early indicator that the song has the potential to gain heat in lock-step with the thermometer as summer beckons.

*Yes, for those of you asking at home, Jason Derulo is still giving himself shoutouts in the third person in his own songs. This one comes at the tail end.
