First Dibs: The Hip-Hop World Mourns Chris Kelly of Kris Kross

Jay-Z talks about his soundtrack for The Great Gatsby, unreleased Bob Dylan lyrics are going up for auction, and Kanye West has some sort of big news for June 18.

  • The death of Chris Kelly, one half of the '90s hip-hop duo Kris Kross, has prompted condolences from artists around the industry. Nicki Minaj and Ludacris took to Twitter, while Jermaine Dupri, who discovered Kelly, issued a statement. Kelly died at an Atlanta hospital last night, with evidence pointing to a possible drug overdose. [MTV]
  • So how did Jay-Z get involved in scoring The Great Gatsby? Apparently, Leonardo DiCaprio came to one of Jay's recording sessions for Watch the Throne, the stars began talking about the art of collaboration, and boom. Didn't know it was that simple to make history. [Vibe]
  • Lyrics for two unreleased Bob Dylan songs will go on auction at Christie's in June. The lyrics, written in 1963, revolve around Cold War anxiety and the civil disillusionment of the day. The seller, 85-year-old Izzy Young, says his dire financial situation led him to sell the works. [Rolling Stone]
  • Oh Kanye, why do you toy with us? The rapper posted a tweet, reading nothing more than "June Eighteen." We're not exactly sure if it's baby-related, music-related, or...perhaps he proposed to Kim Kardashian and this is the date of their wedding? [Rap Radar]
