2013 VMAs: Katy Perry Grand VMA Finale Knock Out At The Brooklyn Bridge

Did the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards save the best for last? Katy Cats probably think so. For the show’s grand finale,¬†Katy Perry¬†performed her new single, “Roar,” in front of a live audience for the very first time tonight. “Roar” has already become the fastest-selling single of Katy’s career, so it’s no wonder she wanted to shine like a champion.

Katy Perry had been teasing her performance in an “undisclosed location” for days and as her moment of glory drew near, she started to hype her performance by sauntering through a crowd while wearing a boxer’s robe that said, “Lioness,” on the back.

Perry wound up performing below the Brooklyn Bridge on a giant stage built to resemble a boxing ring. The “ring” was flanked by two giant golden lion busts and Perry was joined on stage by a cadre of dancers dressed for a (clean) fight.

Now of course, there had been discussion for weeks that the fight between Lady Gaga and Katy Perry for pop supremacy would be decided at the VMAs, and Perry seemed to playfully nod at this “beef.” As soon as her performance ended, she claimed a championship belt and her back-up dancers lifted signs that said, “Game Over.”

Or is it?
