Lorde's "Royals" Ascends To #1 On iTunes And Miley Cyrus' Fans Bite Back On Twitter

We've been tracking September's You Oughta Know artist Lorde's ascension to pop royalty all month and yesterday marked a unique milestone for the 16-year-old pop princess from New Zealand. Last night, "Royals" rose to the top spot on the iTunes singles chart. The song knocked Miley Cyrus'Ā "Wrecking Ball" off the throne and instigated some nasty fights on twitter!

When Lorde found out that her single had reached #1 on the US iTunes charts, she not only tweeted out her excitement, but also her apprehension at the fact that her victory had stoked the ire of Miley Cyrus fans:

Apparently, there were so many mean comments directed at Lorde that Miley herself had to step in.

So, that settles that, right? People are mean and shouldn't be, Lorde is excited about being #1 on iTunes (for as long as it lasts) and Miley Cyrus likes Lorde's music. All should be right in the world! No more twitter fights, guys! Let's all be friends!

As of this moment, "Royals" is still #1 on the U.S. iTunes charts and Lorde's debut E.P, The Love Club, is #8 on album charts. Lorde's debut album, Pure Heroine, drops on September 30, and one has to assume that's also going to climb the charts--and hopefully not attract the attention of trolls on twitter.
