The Roots And Jimmy Fallon Turn Miley's "We Can't Stop" Into Must Hear TV

Do you wish someone would press "stop" on "We Can't Stop"? You're not alone. The lead single off of Miley Cyrus' brand new Bangerz LP is undeniably one of the catchiest pop songs of the year, but after hearing it in constant, heavy rotation for the better part of the last four months, our ears have begun feeling like they need a temporary break from this earworm. Enter Jimmy Fallon and The Roots, who teamed up with Miley for an incredible a cappella version of "We Can't Stop" on last night's Late Night With Jimmy Fallon that breathes brand new life into the track.

One of the unquestioned strengths of LNWJF program has been the involvement of The Roots, who have managed to turn otherwise potentially stale music performances into Must Hear TV by creatively rethinking the way songs are presented. Whether The Roots are adding new instrumentation to familiar songs, giving them new context by pairing tracks up with guests as they walk on the program, or performing them in a classroom with the kinds of instruments that are normally played by elementary school-aged children, they have managed to make music an integral part of the program. Last night's episode featured them singing "We Can't Stop" a cappella style, which let Miley's vocals shine brighter than they have on any other previously recorded version of the track. By taking the focus off of Miley's turnt up twerking and onto her strong vocal chops, The Roots have reminded us once again that Miley is, first and foremost, an exciting young vocalist and not just an overstimulated licker of construction equipment. BRAVO!
