Bow Wow Wow, Yippee Yo Yippee Yay: Snoop Dogg's 'Doggystyle' Turns 20

Snoop Dogg's Doggystyle is regarded as one of the landmark albums in hip-hop history and, along with Dr. Dre's The Chronic, the LPs that exemplify the West Coast G-Funk sound. The album dropped on November 23, 1993, and today is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its release.

Our pals over in VH1 News raided the archives and dug up some INCREDIBLE footage of a then 22-year-old Calvin "Snoop Dogg" Broadus on the Doggystyle promotional circuit, where he told our cameras about how he came up with the name for the record. "I'm comin' around from the back," Snoop explained. "Other artists choose to come through the front door, but I'm gonna come through the back door, you know what I'm sayin'?"

Off the strength of its two monster singles "Gin And Juice" and "Who Am I (What's My Name)?," Doggystyle debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts, eventually selling over 5 million copies here in the United States. Other stand out tracks from the album included Snoop's reinterpretation of Slick Rick's classic "Lodi Dodi," as well as "Ain't No Fun" which featured the late Nate Dogg and Warren G. To this day, it remains the most successful album of Snoop's career, both commercially and artistically.
